Block Fighter
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
***INTRODUCING PHASE 3!!!!!!!!!!***
(now with more exclamation points)
We got two player! Woop-woop!
Pressing the Select button joins the game.
Pick your character by pressing Start.
Benjamin/Bison are the same character with the same moves:
Hold away > Towards + Punch = Crusher
Hold Down > Up + Kick = Somersault Kick
Rapid Kick button = Hundred Spike Kick
Rob/Ryu are also the same character with the same moves:
Toward > Down > Toward+Down > Punch = Flying Uppercut
Down > Down+Away > Away + Kick = Tornado Kick
Down > Down+Towards > Towards + Punch = Fireball
Two players can select the same character, the second player to select the character will get an alternate colour palette on their character.
Some known bugs to be mindful of:
The big one is that sometimes the game recognises controllers / players have joined without the player pressing the Select button. This means the game thinks two players have joined when only one has and this prevents the fight from even starting.
Solution: Restart and try again. Plug in the controller if using Bluetooth or use Bluetooth if plugged in. Some trial and error may be necessary. Once the game gets its &%$# together you shouldn't encounter the same problem even after rematches.
Another occasional bug sees characters not 'grounding' appropriately, meaning they stay in the jumping animation even after they've landed.
Solution: If the character is hit or does a special move that will straighten things out. (this is one of the first things I'm going to fix in the next version, I just wanted to get this out)
Finally, there is a minor bug where only the player that pressed Select first in the current fight can select “Rematch” after a fight is finished. Regardless of whether they won or lost.
Solution: Just be aware that whichever player pressed “Select” first in the match is the player that needs to press “Start” to get a rematch.
I haven't added any new combos, so the ones I know work are for Rob/Ryu:
Crouching Light Kick > Crouching Medium Kick > Crouching Heavy Kick
Tornado Kick > Fireball
Flying Heavy Uppercut > Tornado Kick > Fireball
As mentioned before this is less of a demo and more of a proof-of-concept, as I'm planning on using this in a platform adventure with a fighting game styled input system, instead of a fully-fledged fighting game.
Sprites were referenced from Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate.
Sound FX are from Eternal Champions and SF2:SCE on the Mega Drive.
